Cone 10 Soda Firing Class
*This Class is for Potters with some experience as there will be no weekly wheel throwing instruction*
8 Week Class - 2 cone 10 soda firings
4 Week Option - 1 cone 10 soda firing
Interested in getting varied surface results with your pottery? This class is for you!
While this class will meet every Thursday evening, it does not come with weekly instruction.
Students will meet every week to create work for the 2 firings.
Students will meet with their instructor, David Roswell https://www.davidroswellstudios.com/, on the first class, first night glazing, and loading, firings and unloading dates.
Loading, firing and unloading will happen at David's studio in Durham which is located off of university Drive, 15 minutes from Delores Pottery. Glazes will be provided at the studio.
Flashing slips and tips for how to decorate pieces for a soda firing will be provided. Students will make work like normal but the final firing will be different.
Dates & Times for loading, firing, and unloading dates will be determined by the instructor
1st class Thur Jan 4th - Meet your teacher, select clay, begin making work
Sunday Jan 20th - All work must be on the bisque shelf in order to be dry in time for bisque firing
Thur Jan 25th - Glazing for the 1st Firing
Friday Jan 26th - additional glazing time at the studio 12pm - 4pm
Friday Jan 26th 4pm - Load Kiln - All students must be present to help wad and load their work unless otherwise discussed with instructor.
Saturday Jan 27th 3pm - Students can aid in the firing and spraying of soda ash into the kiln. Optional but encouraged
Sunday Jan 28th 4pm - Unload kiln - All students must be present to help unload the kiln unless otherwise discussed with instructor.
Sunday Feb 17th - All work must be on the bisque shelf in order to be dry in time for bisque firing
Thur Feb 22nd - Glazing for 2nd Firing
